Frequently Asked Wedding & Engagement Questions

What are your wedding day rates?

Wedding coverage starts at $2500. Please fill out a contact form to check my availability. I will send you additional information about my services, how to set up a consultation and booking.

What is your photography style?

Intimate, Editorial, Airy, Emotional and Unexpected. I focus on capturing the unique moments that make your wedding yours – in a style that is uniquely original. I describe my style as a photojournalist with a touch of artistic portraiture. Other than some light posing for some unique portraits, I am unobtrusive and take candid shots of natural emotion and events.  If you have a look or style of photography you are going for please let us know

Do you do formal portraits and take pictures of the details?

Definitely! A few weeks before the wedding, we will request a list of formal portraits you want to have taken. I also document all the details of the wedding no matter how small.

How do we book?

A nonrefundable retainer ($1000 for local weddings, $1500 for destination weddings) and signed contract will reserve your date. All bookings can be done by phone or via e-mail.  The balance is split into monthly payments that will be paid in full three months before wedding date.

How far should we book in advance?

I suggest that you book as soon as you are sure that you want us to be your wedding photographer(s). I am currently booking for 2022.

Do you offer destination weddings and portraits? How do you handle them?

I live for a good reason for a road trip (or a sky trip, or boat trip or any trip for that matter). For single session/event coverage within 100 miles, a mileage fee is added. For weddings requiring air travel, we arrive at least 24 hours in advance so that we will absolutely be there even if there are any travel delays. I also have a series questionnaires for destination weddings, and have previously set up Facetime or Skype chats so we can get to know each other before your big day. We also book all of our own travel and charge a simple, flat rate for most destination weddings.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, I sure do. I carry business insurance. If your venue requires a “certificate of additionally insured”, I may provide one within 7 days for a $25 fee.

How many weddings do you photograph a year?

As a DMV Wedding Photographer I limit the number of weddings I shoot to allow enough time to dedicate to each of my couples. I photograph an average of 20 weddings per-year. Once I have booked 30 weddings, I do not accept any additional bookings regardless of what weekend dates I have available.

What are engagement sessions and how are they done?

As a DMV Engagement Photographer my job is to document the couple months leading up to their wedding. Engagement sessions are on-location photo sessions with the future bride and groom and can include: sunset walks on the beach, romantic boat and canoe rides, fun trip to the bowling alley or carnival or a trip to your favorite park.

How soon will our photos be done & How many?

Weddings: About 10-15 weeks following the event depending on the time of year. A full wedding gallery will be made available online for your viewing and sharing pleasure; and a thumb drive of the high resolution images will be mailed shortly after.  Each event is different, depending on the duration of the coverage, we usually delivers between 500-1000 photos for an 8 hour wedding.

Portraits: About 28 to 35 days. I understand that portraits are usually taken to be used for holiday cards, save the dates, bridal display photos for a wedding, etc and strive to have these images available as quickly as possible.  Each portrait session is different, we typically deliver between 10-15 images for an one-hour.

Engagement session, 25-30 images for two-hour engagement session and 45-60 for three-hour engagement session.

Can I post my photos on Facebook, my personal website, and online?

Yes! I’d love for you to show off your images. However, to prevent my copyrighted work from being illegally reproduced and used I ask that clients only share watermarked images online. To make it even easier for you to share your photos I offer – for no additional charge – the web-sized, watermarked images that have the added sharpness and size reduction for optimal web viewing and uploading.

How do you back-up our images?

I shoot with a Nikon D850 and Canon EOS R which allows me to simultaneously shoot to three memory cards. This helps to ensure we don’t lose any images as a result of a corrupted memory card. As soon as I complete a photo shoot, before I do any editing to the photos I copy them all on multiple external hard drives. Once the editing process is complete and the photos are online, I make two more copies of the final proofed images in high-resolution JPG format, one that I keep stored online for up to 6 months, and one that is stored to an external hard drive forever.

Do you offer videography/cinematography?

We only offer Drone coverage for a 60 second video reel for social media. We have a list of great videographers that you can book separately from our wedding package but is not offered as a combined package.

What’s is your back-up plan?

In the unfortunate event or tragedy that we are unable to shoot your wedding. We have a network of experience wedding photographers that we can call in case of emergency.

What sort of equipment do you bring to a wedding?

Since your wedding only happens once, I bring multiple camera bodies, lenses and flashes as well as the second photographer.

Here is a list of our equipment: Nikon D850 and Canon EOS R, a variety of lenses: Sigma 24-70mm f2.8, Sigma 35mm f2.8, Nikon 50mm f2.8, Nikon105mm Macro F2.8, Nikon 85mm F1.4, Nikon 70-200mm F2.8, (2) Godox Portable Strobe Lights, (2) Godox Flashes, Various video lights and (4) wireless flash controllers.
